Poco Loco

This restaurant opens in the evenings, we ate a half meter of pizza between the two of us and we were quite satisfied. You can choose two different kinds (gustos), in the half meter and three kinds in the meter. I think it cost 14 euros, and it's a very quiet place with a comfortable terrace.

Pizza a Pranzo

We found this restaurant by chance on the freeway from ALghero to Bosa on the island of Sardinia. It was a hidden place although you can see it from the highway. It´s perfect to have a drink and an appetizer before continuing the journey. When I went it was half under construction and there wasn´t anybody else. It has a terrace with some pretty views of the Mediterannean. It´s in a quiet place, surrounded by vegetation and on the side a mountain. The inside is very big with many tables. The prices are accessible and pizza is their speciality.

Alghero, like any good Mediterranean and Italian city, it has enviable warm weather. Both day and night the people invade the streets, the typical shops and the terraces. It's very similar to Spain, as the bustle of people and how to enjoy is very similar. One of the best places to have a beer outdoors is Port bars. Restaurants have also installed terraces, so you can eat outside overlooking the sea.

Neptune's Grotto Cafe
(1)
After going down the 656 steps leading to the entrance of the Grotto of Neptune (Sardinia) and then after climbing back up, I´m sure you'd pay anything for a cold drink. Well luckily they thought about this cafe, because around the grotto is there nothing. It also has an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy splendid views of Capo Caccia and the Mediterranean.

Trattoria Al Refettorio
Today we ate in the restaurant that is supposedly coolest in Alghero, Al Refettorio. It offered a menu at 16 euros. We ordered the pasta of the day and fish of the day. The pasta was ... Macaroni with tomato! Very normal. The fish was tasteless with tomato sauce, garnished with two or three pieces of potato and a handful of olives. Nothing fancy. The Sardinian bread with olive oil, offered between courses was the best of the food. Attention: the bread left uneaten is given to other customers, seen with my own eyes. It's cool. The weather was bad, and the truth was that we were very cold inside the restaurant. We waited for the homemade dessert supposedly exquisite which took an age to arrive. Another disappointment: It was a tiny piece of cake that tasted like a supermarket muffin with chocolate sauce trickles. Grievous. When we finished, without drinking coffee (if we did we would have caught pneumonia), we paid 36 euros for 4, charged for the bad service. Of course we did not tip. Certainly. So if you want to eat well to avoid this restaurant Alghero. Much better to eat a few pieces of pizza in Pizzarium, as we did yesterday: We paid 14 euros for two with wine and it was pleasant. Simple, unpretentious, honest. Although not cool.

Caffe de Pazzi
Cafe de Pazzi has a staff that is always smiling and very friendly. It's a great cafe and is an ideal place to snack or drink before dinner. The cafe is dogfriendly, so it's easy to find people accompanied by their 4-legged friends. For me it's one of the best places for breakfast and to meet friends in the afternoon.

Il Ghiotto

In the central Plaza Civica Alghero (near the harbour), we found this shop selling quality products typical of Sardinian and Italian cuisine. It's perfect place to buy a souvenir of the island because it specialises in the island's wines, spirits, sospiri, pasta, salami, pane carasau, torrone ... Besides this you can also participate in the frequent tastings prepared at the store, so you can choose the products that you enjoy the most.. The prices are not extortionate - that said it is not the cheapest shop on the island.

Il Bajada
Until we found this restaurant in Alghero we hadn´t found a place where we could enjoy good homestyle food. Thinking of a cheap place, this is highly recommended and suitable for all budgets. The dishes we had were very tasty. I especially loved the ravioli because it was excellent. Not only the taste of the dishes was what really won us over, but the service of a young boy ve was fun, playful and joked around with us. What I especially liked was the tranquility of the place. And thanks to the plants that were in the balcony, the place was more welcoming. A couple of tips: On one hand the dishes are quite consistent and with one dish you are satisfied, and the other recommendation is that you arrive punctual at the hour to eat or you will not have a place outside on the terrace. If you look for Alghero it is phenomenal

L'Ancora

In Alghero, I had the impression that the restaurants and bars that the locals go to have better quality food and service than in the typical tourist traps. This bar is a good example of that. On the way from the campgrounds where we stayed toward the city's center, we got hungry, and the aroma of pizza dough baking that emanated from the bar was irresistible. It's a little bit "bistro" with little tables in the street, where they serve the delicious pizza. Also the lasagna was excellent, but it's more for light-eaters. The waiters were very nice and the clientele tends to be locals (at least during non-peak travel times). This restaurant also had much better prices than any of the restaurants in the center.

Cafe Dragunara

This cafe, just feet away from the beach, is a small luxury that we could have if the sun was bothering us. A cocktail, an exquisite Italian coffee and something to eat, just what one wants to have when they are in these beautiful corners. The island of Sardinia is not cheap, but these places by the beach aren´t too expense, like some people may think. This area, although touristic, is not so much so as the northeast, the emerald coast, so the prices are more accessible to the public.

Gelateria Arcobaleno
You will find a line to wait to try the best ice cream in Alghero according to the Sunday Times. It has a good price and we ordered 3 ice creams with a total of 5 flavors and it costed us 6 Euros. It´s without a doubt a good dessert after a dinner.

Ristorante Dieci Metri
You definitely won´t find many places to eat at 15h in this small town. Returning from a walk through the colorful streets we decided to go into this place to have pasta and risotto. The truth is that it didn´t seem homemade and the food seemed pre-prepared. On the contrary they were very nice and told us that we could see more of this beautiful coastal town located south of Alghero. The price wasn´t cheap. I think that being in one of the most beautiful places is paid for in the dishes and drinks. Also, the TV was a little loud and you couldn´t eat quietly.

Dietro il Carcere
The restaurant "The Germans" offers a delicious meal and incredibly good value. The waiter, Giani, is very nice and attentive to customers. There isn't a menu, but it offers a variety of daily dishes, depending on what they purchase the same day. Via catalogna, 60 / c-Alghero (SS).

Gelateria Ciro
The streets of the old town of Alghero are full of ice cream. At any time of day, you'll see tourists and locals enjoying a good ice cream. We tried several of them but we would recommend Gelatería Ciro, in the Plaza Ginnasio. They have a variety of flavors, cookies, and tubs ranging in price from €2 to €5. If you go through there and you feel like an ice cream, do not hesitate to go in! We had Baccio and white chocolate! :)

Ristorante da Pietro
A team of young professionals are in charge of running this restaurant, renovated by the management, but maintains the original idea: providing good local cuisine, with an emphasis on pasta and fresh fish, with a selection of regional wines. You should try the Agliatta all`Algherese (a sauce made with dried tomatoes and garlic), octopus salad and potato, Zupetta di Cozze, risotto alla marinara, the orechiette Gamberi and zucchine, and home Fain. Delightful!

Il Pesce d'Oro

Both times we went to Alghero, we couldn't stop anticipating the huge pizza we we're going to eat! Il Pesce d'Oro is a popular pizza restaurant located near the old town, in front of Giuseppe Manno gardens, where most buses stop. The place is cozy, with a varied menu of seafood, salads, pastas, and what we like...their pizzas! There are many to choose from, any of them are good, but I recommend going hungry as they really dish out! It is great value for money, 4 of us with an entree to share a pizza for everyone and wine, we paid €12 per person! What more could you ask for!? Strongly recommended!

Raggio di Sole
I'd say that this is one of the restaurants with the most products you can find in Alghero and you will only find it by coming down the street where another restaurant will surprise you because there's a charming bridge. Despite everything, Raggio di Sole is a recommended restaurant with two rooms, two separate areas, one more modern than anything I've seen. The décor was what I liked most and what I remember of Alghero. Proper service done respectfully and the staff made efforts to understand Spanish. What we did not like so much were that the size of the dishes were very small and prices especially for 2 courses could be €30 even though we were drinking water and the seafood salad and fetucinni weren't the best I've ever had. On the other hand, the other diners and friends of the owners were very loud and disrespectful. In the vicinity you will find many places where you can enjoy an ice cream.
