Without a doubt, it’s one of my favorite places. When I go to Cadiz, I always go to Romerijo to eat their seafood. It’s located right in the Port of Saint Mary. It’s one of the places I recommend to people traveling to Cadiz, as it has a good price-quality relation.
You can get there, sit down, ask for a menu, there’s a large variety of seafood options to choose from at distinct prices. I think the best thing to do is find a table and then head over and select the type of seafood and amount (weight) you want. You can then enjoy some beers or a nice wine with the meal.
If you want to try to shrimp omelet, you should ask for them as a tapa (appetizer), ½ portion or portion. They don’t come by weight, but they’re delicious.
The Bodeguilla del Bar Jamón is situated on Mercy Street. For me it is one of the places you must go, if you visit Puerto de Santa Maria to enjoy a good meal. With many years of experience, here you can savor magnificent toasted ham and many other dishes, the sirloin tip or thin chorizo are delicious. In season do not miss the gazpacho it is exquisite. If time allows, the terrace is an ideal place to sit and enjoy the food. Definitely a highly recommended spot, great atmosphere and friendly service, which is not bad for price.
For lovers of modern food, this is a magnificent restaurant that blends the latest trends in the kitchen with traditional Cadiz food. It has a young service, that are very professional and will teach you how the real bay shrimp, their typical sauces and oldest wines are not at odds with the future and modernity.
At the mouth of the river Guadalete you'll find the most touristic area of El Puerto de Santa María. At the beginning of this famous Ribera del Marisco, there's a series of bars and restaurants offering diversity. Among them, under an arcade you'll come across this popular Mexican restaurant. It's best to get a seat early because at peak times it's always full. Best to park in front. Upon entering the street there's a car park on the left. It's just a few meters away, there are no other options except to leave the vehicle far away. Under the arcades they have installed several wooden screens to isolate the link. In summer it is better on the terrace, The nside asrea is more than just a bar. Custom decorations and a menu specialized in chicken and nachos. A la carte you can eat for 15€.
Upon arrival at El Puerto de Santa Maria, you will find these famous wineries, which have been converted into a restaurant. Out front there is an outdoor parking lot, but they have their own parking lot that's almost a block long. They are next to the Convent of the Holy Spirit, which used to be a monastic charity residence. These wineries are at the beginning of the city's most famous street, the Ribera del Marisco. Outside, it looks like one place, but once inside, you realize they're something more. The Los Portales restaurant, that was next door, was bought so the wineries could expand their facilities. It's one of the restaurants in the town that has been converted into the most important wine-making facilities for leisure dining. Along with a large winery, the vast dining is used for great celebrations, with the added advantage of its aesthetics and its natural air conditioning with high ceilings and superior ventilation. The wineries offer large indoor gardens and Andalusian patios. In 1861, these wineries belonged to the famous Terry brand. The kitchen is Andalusian.
This is one of the most typical restaurants of El Puerto de Santa María. It lies at the end of the Ribera del Marisco, in the square of the Galeras, where the medieval spring was located for the galleys who left for America. Unlike any other restaurant in the area, this on is located within the landscaped park across the street. There is an outdoor park next to it and it is surrounded by trees and children's attractions. The best thing about this place is the terrace in the park itself. Besides its gastronomy specialising in fish from the river, most of the fish is served fried. The menu costs 15 euros, or a tasting menu for 2 costs 35 euros. From the menu we had the appetizer of shrimp fritters. First we chose salad, gazpacho, seafood soup or stew of the day. For seconds we chose between elpescaíto fried, sea bream, bull beef and steaks. Plus dessert, bread and drinks.
The most touristy area in El Puerto de Santa María is la plaza de las Herrerías. In this seaside city, seafood and fish fill almost all the menus. This particular restaurant has an outdoor terrace but inside there is a spacious dining room. The decor is rustic, with lots of wood. There are lots of references to streets in Madrid and the people that live there. They serve good meat imported from northern Spain, made with Castilian recipes.
In the tourist street of El Puerto de Santa Maria, at the mouth of the river Guadalete, You'll find this old tavern whose origins must date back to medieval times. This is demonstrated by its strong granite walls, probably being where sailors and dock workers spent their free time. It's in a corner so it has a pedestrianized terrace. You can't stop in front so you should park in either parking lots that are nearby. There's one at the beginning of the street and the other at the other end. The interior of the restaurant is decorated as a typical sailor's bar. Seafood, fish from the river and local seafood is all served.
Amid the tourist street of El Puerto de Santa María, there's this popular restaurant, known for the quality of its cuisine and its friendly service. It's in a palace that has been preserved for the enjoyment of the customers. Besides the decor, it's improved its quaintness with its allusions to bullfighting and antique furniture and paintings. To park, the best thing to do is park in the outdoor car park at the end of the street. If you can't find it, which is usual, remember that at the beginning of the street there is another car park. The building has several floors and is divided into reserved seating. One can eat here in complete privacy, or amidst a family atmosphere that is what characterizes this restaurant. There are 4 rooms, each decorated differently, with different capacities. The kitchen mainly cooks homemade seafoods. Moreover, we only use quality meat, from all parts of Spain. In existence since 1975.
The Restaurant El Faro Del Pueto is an old manor house surrounded by gardens. Their Andalusian cuisine offers a creative flare. It has its own garden with herbs and seasonal vegetables. They make homemade pastries. Some of its most famous dishes are the Iberian ham of the Sierra de Huelva, squid sauteed salad on roasted squash, and grilled asparagus.
This is possibly the most typical bar around El Puerto de Santa María. It's in the centre of the town's tourist street, surrounded by large restaurants which contrast how small it is. I've known about it for many years because it has always been the crowded tapas bar between the other restaurants' terraces. The name came from how difficult it is to get to the bar to order. At this time, June 2009, it's almost open. You can still go to the bar, though the dining rooms are not yet open. This modest place has been converted into a restaurant with dining rooms, but with a tiny bar, possibly to continue the tradition. It specializes in seafood tapas and fast food. The prices remain just as popular as ever. There is outdoor parking in front.
When you arrive in Puerto de Santa Maria you come to the famous Ribera del Marisco, the Guadalete River, the tourist area of the city. The first restaurant that you come across on this bank is Los Portales, one of the most famous restaurants in the whole town. It is so crowded that it also bought the adjoining property for winemaking facilities, which now serves for social meeting rooms and a recreation area. The decor remains traditional architectural features, red walls, baseboards Sevillian tiles, wood beamed ceilings and tiled local fare. The restaurant has several lounges and a bar area. They serve seafood cuisine. Price of the menu 40 euros, 30 euros taster menu. Parking is in front, outdoors.
You will find the perfect place for tapas and have a drink. With an extensive tapas menu, all of them made with the best products, Mercedes has achieved the perfect combination of price and quality. The restaurant has 2 floors and a terrace where you can find your perfect environment.
