Community in the Mountains

Leaving from Xexuxcab to go to Todos Santos, you start to climb the mountain to reach the plateau of Cuchumatan. You go through coffee plantations, avocado, bean and corn plantations and you wonder how people can grow crops on such inclined surfaces, and so far from the people! But then you see them go, at full speed, as if it were nothing to go running down these little paths while you go up sweating and burning your lungs. Chanchoc is at the top of the climb in a very dramatic landscape. The first thing we asked upon arrival was why had the people decided one day to settle up here, and how had they managed to bring the wood to build their homes, and where did all the food come from! The Chanchoc community has a small house that was donated by an NGO.
