Largo da Misericordia

This is quite a large plaza in the west of the old town, that gets its name as the Church and House of Mercy are here, as well as the Court of Appeal. It's a paved rectangular square with an ornamental fountain in the center (although the square isn't pedestrianized), against which stands the Monument to Afonso Henriques. The surrounding buildings have tiled facades and large galleries. In the background the square opens to the right onto a small garden at the Monument to João Franco.
