Queen Anne's Footstool

St. John's Smith Square was originally a church, built in 1728 by Thomas Archer. It was heavily damaged in the Second World War, and was later restored, but today it is no longer a church but instead a large concert hall famous for its acoustics. It is considered one of the finest works of English Baroque architecture. It has been nicknamed "Queen Anne's Footstool" because, according to legend, when the architect asked the queen what she wanted the church to look like, she turned his stool upside down and responded, "Like that!"
