Whale Fjord

The fjord Hvalfjörður or Hvalf (Whale fjord) is situated in the west of Iceland between the towns of Mosfellsbær and Akranes. Its name comes from the large number of whales that once were seen from the fjord until the mid-twentieth century. To get to Akranes you must take Highway 47 which skirts the fjord Hvalfjördur.
