Beskuca Palace

The Gothic gateway originally belonged to the Bizanti Palace, but was moved here after the earthquake of 1667. The Beskuca family started gaining power and wealth in the early 18th century through sea trade. The Beskuca are well known for their ancestor, a little ghost, Count Jozo, who is said to have tried to own a hundred houses because his surname meant otherwise. Beskuca means "homeless" and they changed it to Stokuca, from which sto means "hundred". Jozo did not succeed and his descendants returned to the old name.
