Through the dead and decaying leaves of the forest come spring beauties: larkspur and wild phlox. In the forest, the oaks display their new leaves, and within days, the leaves begin to produce food through photosynthesis. Mushrooms pop up around rotting logs, and beetle larvae feast on the fungus and rotting wood.
