Cafayate Wineries are mostly small, family-run places and most can be visited, where you will receive great service. There is an art museum of wine in the oldest winery, Secret Vessel. They have created an ice wine that you can try in the ice cream parlors of town. During the tour of the winery, they told me the family history and showed me the evolution of technology used to make wine, which in a family business such as this is still very traditional with wooden barrels rather than stainless steel and hand bottling and encapsulating. Then we tasted some of wines from the cellar. My favourite was definitely Torrontés, although that is of French origin. Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon were also pretty good.
This is a photo of the main attraction of doomsday wineries in Neuquen, Argentina. Interestingly, it's in an area that doesn't typically produce wine, and yet this has been going on for a few years. Excellent wines.
The Clouds Villa is 5 km from Cafayate. It's an area higher than the town, and the wines are unique and of high quality. It is an area comprised of outstanding beauty, with forests of mesquite, cactus, and construction and terrace on the slopes. Clouds Villa is the project of a person from Mendoza that decided to create "wines" in this area for its unique characteristics. So he bought the estate which is six hectares, planted 5,000 vines and produce wine and drabs, and he prefers quality to quantity.
